CMM Calibration

Professional CMM Calibration

We are factory-trained professional calibrators who don’t just certify but calibrate all types and styles of coordinate measuring machines, portable arms, optical projectors and vision systems that our factory-trained technicians can calibrate.

Great CMM Service Across the U.S.

CMMXYZ is proud to offer industry-leading CMM calibration services to businesses across the United States. We send our factory-trained CMM machine calibration specialists directly to your door — minimizing machine downtime and saving long-term costs.

As a leading metrology provider in North America, we know how important convenience and efficiency are in streamlining and optimizing production. Let our technicians handle your calibration needs on-site and to your standards.

CMM Calibrations to Current Standards

Anyone can certify a Coordinate Measuring Machine; we calibrate. This means we not only issue a traceable certificate but also adjust the machine to the manufacturer’s specifications or better (depending upon age or condition).

Never worry about your machine being out of calibration. CMM will notify you 60 days before the expiry date of your existing certificate, giving you plenty of time to schedule a convenient calibration date.

To view our certifications, please visit our ISO Certifications page. We are an ISO 9001 registered company and ISO 17025 accredited. We continually enhance and improve our CMM calibration services to provide our customers with the best possible service. Our fully equipped service and calibration department can inspect and certify linear and volumetric accuracy, velocity, angularity, straightness, squareness, flatness, and parallelism, and also perform B89 or ISO 10360 performance inspection on all machines.

Since we are a certified calibration provider for Optical Gauging Products, we can also calibrate your video system. This means that we will make all necessary adjustments to your measuring equipment, ensuring it meets original specifications. We are committed to ensuring that you feel confident about your valuable metrology equipment when our technician leaves.

CMM Calibration Frequency

A coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is a highly specialized tool that requires regular maintenance and upkeep to measure manufactured parts accurately. A CMM calibration procedure is necessary to ensure that the machine works efficiently and meets industry standards.

The frequency of your CMM calibration services often depends on the machine's location. CMMs located in a laboratory or a clean room should be calibrated once annually, while machines located on the shop floor should undergo calibration every six months. At CMMXYZ, we work closely with our clients to understand their calibration needs. By considering past history and machine location, we can change your calibration frequency based on your specific needs.

Our priority is ensuring your machinery operates to industry standards. That’s why our CMM calibration equipment and services are ASME-certified. ASME is the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. It is the governing body of both B89 and ISO 10360-2 calibration procedures in North America. The ASME B89 procedure utilizes a ball bar to calibrate and adjust a CMM. This standard has now been superseded by ISO 10360-2, which uses step gauges or a laser interferometer for calibration and adjustment.

Frequently Asked Questions About CMM Calibration

When can I schedule my calibration/service call?

CMM calibration service calls can be scheduled once the customer has placed the purchase order. From there, they will speak with one of our schedulers to determine the best time for your schedule.

How much does it cost to calibrate my CMM?

The cost of a CMM calibration service will vary depending on the scale of work required. For calibration services in the U.S. that require a technician on-site on the shop floor, prices may fluctuate due to rising costs of food, hotels, and gasoline. Additionally, more stringent auditing procedures are involved in order to maintain our ISO/IEC 17025 certification.

To learn more about our CMM calibration procedure costs, contact us at +1.800.606.9266 or visit us online to fill out our contact form.

What time will my CMM calibration service technician arrive?

Each CMM calibration procedure requires a unique timeline based on the client’s needs. At CMMXYZ, our customers can schedule their service technician with our scheduler and discuss additional travel details.

When do I get my calibration certificate?

A calibration sticker is affixed to the machine after every CMM calibration service is completed.  Your certificate will be provided within 10 working days.

Do I need to clean the scales of my CMM?

CMMs in an air-conditioned room do not require their scales to be cleaned. During your CMM calibration procedure, your technician will clean your scales if necessary. Machines located on the shop floor should include weekly scale inspections, and regular maintenance should be arranged with your service provider.

Which calibration standard do I need?

We recommend calibrating your CMM to the current ISO 10360-2 standard.

What is the turnaround time for portable arm calibrations?

Our turnaround time for calibrating portable CMM arms is approximately 4-5 days.

What is the ideal temperature for my CMM lab?

Your CMM laboratory should be set at 20 degrees Celcius +- 2 degrees. This should suffice for most machines.

Can I use my CMM during the calibration process?

Under no circumstances should you operate your CMM during the calibration process. Calibration of a CMM is a nuanced process that requires your technician to have complete access without interference. Please refrain from using the machine until your technician has given the all-clear.

How often should I qualify my CMM probe tips?

Probe tips should be qualified at the commencement of every shift.
